KCSN had a few weeks filled with superstar new releases. New records from Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire, Elvis Costello & The Roots, The Killers, Pearl Jam, and more. Each of these releases carries the weight of expectation, both pro and con, depending on your view of the artist.
Paul McCartney reflected on that fact in an interview recently, stating, “I’ve learned to temper my comments when it comes to my new records, but I think you’ll like it”. Rather understated, coming from a Beatle, wouldn’t you say?
KCSN receives literally hundreds of new releases each week, ranging from local artist releases to the aforementioned superstars. Given the broad and inclusive nature of KCSN programming, there is a lot of musical ground to consider. Superstar releases, of course, have history and immediate familiarity that might give them an ‘edge’, provided the material warrants the support.
Commercial radio is often guilty of ‘blind allegiance’ to superstars. Big equals familiar equals automatic airplay. Here at KCSN, we have taken the approach of trying to give these artists due respect and sharing their music with you, our listeners. Just being ‘big’, however does not guarantee ‘still great’.
As with all of the music we play, we encourage our members to offer feedback regarding the music we play. We have simplified that approach by allowing members to ‘rate’ every song we play. You simply log on to kcsn.org and click on the KCSN Music player and offer a ‘star’ rating.
It is important to note that we do not want this to be perceived as some rote ‘rate-a-record’ process that will turn KCSN into the overly researched monotony that you get further down the dial. It is an extension of our desire to have you, our members, believe that we listen and care about your opinions regarding the station.
Here at KCSN, our members are the real ‘superstars’. We want to give you ‘five-star’ treatment…
