MUSIC 101 WITH ERIK DERR
Heard twice each weekday – immediately following the 6:30 a.m. KCSN News and again in the 3 p.m. hour.
Music 101 is a unique feature based on one-on-one interviews with music students and educators. The two-minute program is the brainchild of broadcast and print journalist Erik Derr, a lifetime lover of the Classical repertoire who deeply believes in the transformative power of music education and the inspirational value of a good story.
Music 101 promotes the belief that there are generations of young music students in our community who have yet to be professionally discovered, but whose efforts to develop their talents, improve their lives and realize their dreams need to be acknowledged.
Erik has reported for National Public Radio’s “Pacific Time” and “Latino USA” news magazines, National Native News and Pacifica Radio’s National News. He has written as well for several news publications, including The Seattle Times, Seattle Post–Intelligencer, Northwest Asian Weekly, Asian Week, KoreAm Journal, San Fernando Valley Business Journal and, most recently, the Sun Community Newspapers, which serve Encino, Sherman Oaks and Studio City.
Erik first worked in radio as a weekend host at Classical station K–Bach in Monterey, CA. He later worked as a producer for Classic KING–FM Seattle and L.A.’s K–Mozart.
