City of Night with Mr. Shovel

Mr. Shovel

City Of Night is a show that captures the electricity and diversity of a Saturday night in Los Angeles. It brings an energy to KCSN by blending a unique mix of new music, rock’s true icons and emerging heroes of the local music scene.

Mr. Shovel is Mark Sovel, KCSN's Music Director. Mark established himself as an influential taste-maker with his work as the founding Music Director at LA's much celebrated radio station Indie103.1, giving the first commercial airplay to artists such as Arcade Fire, Black Keys, Death Cab For Cutie, My Morning Jacket, The Killers, Muse, MGMT, Arctic Monkeys, The Shins and more.

During five years of hosting the popular Local Music show "Check One...Two", Shovel is credited with putting many local L.A. bands on the map, including Silversun Pickups, Cold War Kids, Warpaint, The Airborne Toxic Event, Everest, The Submarines, She Wants Revenge, Sea Wolf and more.

Shovel was also the producer and sidekick of The Sex Pistol's Steve Jones on the infamous "Jonesy's Jukebox" show on Indie 103.1. In fact the nickname "Mr. Shovel" came from the Sex Pistol, who continually mispronounced Sovel's name .
