SUBTERRANEA WITH MATT

Image of Host Matt Kalinowski

Tuesday night / Wednesday Morning at midnight (Pacific).

At the intersection of Tuesday Night and Wednesday Morning lies Subterranea.

Subterranea is a one–of–a–kind radio show built on a foundation of spoken word, poetry, and soundscapes. For a hundred and twenty minutes, your host, Matt, free–associates across themes, rhythms and melodies to create a show unlike any other in Southern California.

Recorded performances by writers like Kerouac and Ginsberg, Bukowski, Ken Nordine, Lord Buckley, Gil Scott–Heron and Wanda Coleman are all mixed together with music from the likes of Tom Waits, Woody Guthrie, Howlin’ Wolf, Steve Earle, Jolie Holland and the Eels.

Whether you’re in your car or at home, you’re always in the depths of Subterranea. Make yourself comfortable.

Subterranea is the light at the End of the World.

It’s a two-hour left-hook of bitter optimism.

It’s the fresh crawlspace in a burning building.

Subterranea is the sound of an envelope carrying good news.

It’s the megaphone of silence in the din of media mendacity.

Subterranea is the organic fertilizer pinched in the middle of LA’s astroturf airwaves.

Bob Dylan Tribute Banner and Link

Before emerging as arguably the most important songwriter in rock history, the man born as Robert Zimmerman grew up in a small Minnesota town. Hearkening back to his earliest days, this exhibition–organized by Experience Music Project–chronicles Dylan’s transformation from Midwestern teen to folk troubadour, artistic innovator, and compelling voice of social conscience.

Featuring more than 160 artifacts, including Dylan’s handwritten drafts of classic songs, rare concert posters and a recording of his first concert, the exhibition focuses on the first decade of his celebrated career. Click here for more information
